LUMINIS - Egeskov Light Castle Festival
30. Oct 2020 to 08. Nov 2020 - 4.30 pm - 9 pm
LUMINIS promises to give you an experience of beautiful light, adventure and magic
Make sure you don’t miss this year’s LUMINIS festival of light art, which Egeskov is hosting for the fifth year in a row. LUMINIS has now been included in the Light Castle Festivals, a programme of spectacular light art experiences at castles all over Europe, and ten international artists will be presenting their light art in different areas of the Egeskov castle grounds.
A common trait of the artists is their inventive use of light and sound, almost always presented in an interactive and/or sustainable manner. Each light installation features a unique design and back story, and several of the works are interactive, inviting the audience to play an active role in them. You can experience works such as “The Cloud” by the Canadian artists Caitlind r.c. Brown and Wayne Garret, and “The Giant Dandelions”, by the French/Filipino artist Olivia d’Aboville, who used 9,000 recycled bottles in its creation.
The theme for this year is Eventyrland (Wonderland), where the emphasis is very much on magic, playfulness and imagination. In the dark, you have the chance to experience a more sensual side of the gardens as you walk out to the fairytale installations and garden spaces. As always, the Egeskov grounds – with the moat and the beautifully restored Renaissance castle as their centrepoint – will be delightfully illuminated as you proceed along a route covering 1-5–2 km. While you follow the trail, you can take in live performances and music against a backdrop of garden spaces and trees bathed in an almost mystical light.
The live performances are presented by changing teams composed of students from the Performing Arts division of Oure Schools. The 70 students will be presenting dance, music and theatre performances that they have been working on during the past term, drawing inspiration from the theme of “Alice in Wonderland”.
Lumen In Art
This year, Egeskov will be hosting the LUMINIS event as a part of the “Light Castle Festivals” programme. Lumen In Art is the driving force behind son et lumière events at castles in several countries in Europe, where international artists from countries including Canada, Italy, the Philippines and Poland are given the opportunity to showcase their light art.
The route is approx. 2 km long and takes 1.5–2 hours to walk.
Please wear appropriate footwear. The walk follows a series of one-way paths through the garden. The path surface may be uneven in places, and the route is hilly in parts. Even though the route is illuminated, it can still be dark in some areas. It is not permitted to bring dogs to LUMINIS.
Tasty fast food and hot drinks will be on sale in the Labyrinth Kiosk and Café Jomfru Rigborg. You can enjoy your food and beverages at the outdoor benches and tables or in the Classics Museum.
There are toilets in the smithy building next to the Classics Museum and the Labyrinth Kiosk.
Make sure to buy your ticket online, as only a limited number of tickets are available per day. Tickets are also on sale from the ticket office at Egeskov – but only if there are any tickets left over on the day.
COVID-19: LUMINIS takes place outdoors on established paths following a one-way route. Guests are requested to observe social distancing rules and to show consideration. Please stay home if you are ill or displaying symptoms. There is a limit on the number of tickets available per evening.
