Bicycles through the ages
Experience a unique exhibition of historical bicycles
The exhibition traces the development of the bicycle, from the earliest models from the 1860s to the 1900s. Experience one of the finest bicycle collections in Europe, with original bikes from c. 1860–1900.
It makes the whole visit worthwhile just to see the very first bicycles, which are reminiscent of the crazy inventions of Storm P. or Heath Robinson. Wrought iron “hobby horses” to the “Penny Farthing” and the first chain bikes. There is even a tandem bike that was designed so that the cycling instructor could teach learner cyclists to ride a bike.
The exhibition provides a good picture of how bikes have evolved from the very first heavy models in wood to the wrought iron.
The collection of historic bikes has kindly been loaned to us by a private collector.
