Surrounded by high hedges, the Fuchsia Garden was formerly laid out as an orchard.
Egeskov has one of the largest collections of fuchsias in Europe – more than a thousand different varieties, of which a number are planted out in the fuchsia garden. The most remarkable feature is the longevity of the plants, some of which are between 80 and 90 years old. During the winter, the plants are kept in the greenhouse. They are then planted out in the fuchsia garden between 20 May and 1 June and taken in again between 15 September and 1 October.
The spring planting in the fuchsia garden consists of 70 different varieties of tulips whose flowering coincides with that of the many fruit trees. This means that, even at the beginning of the season, the fuchsia garden is a beautiful sight to behold.
